Netbooks, being as they are relatively new on the landscape, have a few other descriptions applied to them for example mini notebooks or sometimes ultraportables. With the phrase notebook computer being synonymous with laptop.
Netbooks, are considered to be within the subnotebooks category, which is a swiftly - developing class of little, lightweight, lower priced laptop computers that’s intended for common computing and the use of web-based programs (they can hook up to the web wirelessly).
They are sold more or less as supplementary devices that will augment an individual’s everyday computing resources. Additional illustrative references include: small, lighter weight, minimalist and cheap lap tops; and also lesser, less expensive laptops.
Introduced in the pre-winter holiday season of 2007 - as being scaled-down notebooks optimized for low weight and in the same way affordability - netbooks omitted the cd/dvd disc drive, made the decision to go with more compact screens and as a consequence keyboards, and reduced spec and computational capability.
Within the period since then, the netbook’s screen sizes have had a range of from a bit less than 5 inches to a bit over 10, with their weight in the 1 kilogram (2. 2 pounds) range.
By the summer months of ‘09 netbooks had become significantly more economical in comparison with common notebooks, to the astonishing point of having even been tendered as a no cost incentive on condition of a subscription to an Internet service plan by AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia
During the short period in time since their inception, netbooks have been increasing in size and capabilities, while concurrently netbooks are being made less in weight and more and more small. Therefore, physical traits like how long and wide they are and how little they weigh won’t be what can distinguish them.
The way it stands at this time, maybe a Netbook Computer is alright to be described to be a smallish, lower-powered laptop computer which lacks an optical disc drive(cd/dvd player/recorder). Remember, though, that will not likely be for too long either, when you consider that optical drives are being constructed ever smaller and stand to soon have a profile that fits in a netbook computer. And computer connectivity will soon improve to the point that external media like dvd’s and blu- ray disks can simply be done without.
And so, for now, a netbook might best be labeled as a smaller, less expensive notebook computer sans an optical disc drive.
